How this is calculated
sq ft = (length ft + in⁄12) × (width ft + in⁄12) m² = sq ft ÷ 10.7639
Worked example (the defaults): 12 ft 6 in × 10 ft = 12.5 × 10 = 125 sq ft (11.61 m²). With the +10% plank-flooring allowance, buy for 137.5 sq ft — in 20 sq ft boxes, that's 7 boxes, with sensible spares left for the radiator pipe cut you haven't discovered yet.

How do I calculate square footage?
Length × width, both in feet: a 12 ft × 10 ft room is 120 sq ft. Inches convert as twelfths (6 in = 0.5 ft) — this page takes feet-and-inches directly so you never do that division by hand.
How do I handle an L-shaped or irregular room?
Split it into rectangles, calculate each, add them up. An L is just two rectangles; a bay window is a small rectangle (or half of one) on top of the main run. The waste allowance then covers the fiddly cuts.
Why add a waste percentage for flooring?
Cuts, pattern matching, mistakes, and future repairs. Convention: 10% for straight-lay plank or tile, 15% for diagonal lays and complex rooms. Buying exactly the room's area is how projects end one box short with a discontinued style.
What is square footage in square meters?
Divide by 10.7639 (exactly: 1 m² = 10.76391 sq ft). A 120 sq ft room is 11.15 m² — the result panel shows both so you can compare flooring quoted per m².
